LOVE WITHINGTON BATHS

WITHINGTON BATH RENOVATION PROJECT

In our third year we were given a real client in Withington Baths. After saving the baths from being closed down in 2013 the community are currently looking at renovating their leisure centre. Ideally they wanted to renovate their pool, spa and gym while adding a nursery, café and housing. My concept was ‘One Step at a Time’ with stages in the architecture itself and also in the way its built.

I specified details of the interior finish in the spa. The original floor plans included two pools, one of which is currently boarded over but other than that untouched. As my designs involved removing the second pool I wanted to preserve the tiles in different shades of green for the new spa rooms and pool. Each ‘step’ of the spa was specially designed to increase with temperature with each step. As the temperature drops each room the tiling on the walls and floors lightens from a dark green to a pale yellow in keeping with the greens elsewhere in the original building.
